CADO website and submission terms
Draft for review. Last updated: 16 October 2026.
These terms apply when you use the CADO website and map, or send us information about a building. By using the site or submitting a building, you agree to them. Please read them alongside our privacy notice and our page on which buildings go on the map.
Contents
1. About CADO
CADO (Communities Against Delinquent Ownership) is run by Kinship Works, the trading name of Kinship Project Limited, a private limited company registered in England and Wales (company number 16458730), of 86-90 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NE. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Kinship Works.
CADO maps buildings that have been empty or neglected for a long time and matter to their communities, and helps people who want to bring them back into use.
2. Using the map
The map is a record of community concern about buildings. It is not an official register and not a complete list.
Don’t rely on it for decisions. Don’t rely on the map when deciding whether to buy, invest in or visit a building. Check with the owner or the local council first.
Information can be out of date. We check every entry before it’s published, but we can’t independently verify every detail, and buildings change. Each entry shows when we last checked it.
An entry isn’t an accusation. An entry records a concern about a building. It doesn’t establish why the building is in that condition, who is responsible, or whether anyone has acted unlawfully.
We don’t name owners. We show only the type of owner, such as “company” or “council”.
3. Acceptable use
You must not use CADO to:
harass, threaten or intimidate anyone, or contact owners, occupiers or their families in a way likely to cause distress;
find out about, or compile information about, individual people;
enter, occupy or damage any building, or encourage anyone else to;
collect data from the site by automated means in a way that harms the site, or to target owners, occupiers or contributors;
pretend to be someone else, or misrepresent your connection with a building;
upload anything unlawful, harmful or containing malicious code; or
break any law.
We may remove content, decline submissions and block access if we believe someone has broken these rules.
4. Submitting a building
When you submit a building or an update, you confirm that:
the information is true to the best of your knowledge, and you’ve told us where anything you didn’t see yourself came from;
you didn’t trespass, go into a building or put anyone at risk to get it;
you haven’t included anyone’s contact details, home address (other than the building itself), or information about their health, finances, family or personal circumstances;
you haven’t accused anyone of a crime or of wrongdoing;
you haven’t included confidential, leaked or unlawfully obtained information; and
you’re not submitting the building because of a personal dispute with its owner, a landlord or a neighbour.
We review every submission before anything is published. We may edit it, publish part of it, ask you for more information, or decide not to publish it. We can’t promise to publish every submission or to reply in detail to every one.
5. Photos and other content you send us
You keep the copyright in your photos and words.
By sending them to us, you give Kinship Works a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use them for CADO: to publish them on the map, in reports and in media coverage, to edit them (for example cropping, or blurring faces and number plates), and to share them under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence if we release CADO data openly.
When you upload a photo, you confirm that you took it or have permission to share it, and that it was taken from a public place or somewhere you were allowed to be.
Please avoid photos that show identifiable people, children, vehicle number plates, the inside of anyone’s home, or ways into a building. We may crop, blur or decline any photo.
We’ll credit photos as you choose: by the name you give us, or as “CADO contributor”. If you ask us to remove a photo from the map, we’ll do so where we reasonably can. We can’t recall copies already shared under an open licence.
6. Sharing information
We don’t share information with developers, buyers, agents or organisations seeking to make a profit. In limited circumstances we may share ownership information from public records, such as a company’s name as shown at Companies House, with like-minded partner organisations working to support communities, or with campaigners working together to save the same building.
We will never share your name or contact details without asking you first. Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal information.
7. Corrections and complaints
If you own or are connected with a building on the map, think an entry is inaccurate or unfair, or have new information, use “Suggest an update” on the entry on the map or email cado@kinship.works.
We’ll look at significant concerns as soon as possible, and within five working days, and may hide an entry while we check it. If you own a building on the map, you can send us a response of up to 150 words, which we’ll publish on the entry as written, except for personal data or unlawful content.
8. Our responsibility to you
CADO is a free public-interest service. We take care to keep it accurate and available, but we can’t promise it will always be complete, current or free from errors.
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss caused by relying on information on the map, or by websites we link to, which we don’t control.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
9. Our content and map data
CADO’s own text, design and logo belong to Kinship Works. Map data is shown with the attributions its providers require. CADO data is not currently released as open data. If that changes, the licence and attribution will be stated here first.
10. Changes
CADO is new and will change as we learn. We may update these terms, and will show the date of the latest version at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects contributors, we’ll take reasonable steps to let them know.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
